EFCC Chairman Declares No Refuge for the Corrupt, Affirms Unified Front Against Corruption

In a resolute statement, Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), emphasizes an unwavering commitment to exposing and pursuing corrupt individuals within the nation. The pronouncement was made public through a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, conveyed by EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.

Olukoyede conveyed this stance during a visit from Dr Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), reaffirming the collaboration between the two agencies. The EFCC chairman attributes this formidable stance against corruption to President Bola Tinubu's steadfast determination to combat economic and financial crimes.

Asserting that no one is exempt from investigation for corruption allegations, Olukoyede underscores the conducive atmosphere for anti-graft activities fostered by President Tinubu. He acknowledges the President's demonstrated political will and leadership, signaling a clear message that there is no sanctuary for the corrupt.

“We must give our best, be committed, and provide the President with the necessary support. Nobody is too influential to escape investigation in this country. Non-compliance with the rules will result in an investigation,” he declares.

The engagement with the ICPC, as highlighted by Olukoyede, signifies a united front by anti-corruption agencies, extending solidarity and fellowship. Reminiscing about the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the EFCC and ICPC, he emphasizes its dynamic nature, subject to periodic review to accommodate mutual interests.

Olukoyede justifies the independent existence of both agencies, citing the overwhelming caseload they handle. Despite concerns about overlapping responsibilities, he views their collaboration as essential due to the substantial workload in combating corruption.

Dr Musa Aliyu, in his opening remarks, echoes the necessity for understanding and synergy between ICPC and EFCC. Stressing the importance of a strong relationship, he extends a hand of friendship, expressing ICPC's readiness to collaborate and partner with the EFCC.

Delighted with the existing relationship, Aliyu urges the sustenance of this collaboration in the arduous task of fighting corruption. He concludes with a plea for divine assistance in the discharge of their responsibilities.
